- Equanimity is a strong concept in the sense that it forms the actual detachment and therefor creates my calmness. Calmness is good for me and good for the world around me so I should go for equanimity. An important distinction is between being equanimous and fight. There can be pain, there can be a thought, there can be an emotion yet, I stay calm. I do not refuse the emotion or thought. I allow it to be there yet I do not react to the emotion or thought.
- Once I start fighting these things, a distinction between me and the ´thing´ is created and most of the time, I loose (hmm, maybe all the time, maybe because in the long run I always have to give up...). I try to see it as a cooperation between the thing and myself. I allow the thing to exist however, I do not allow the thing to tell me what I should do. I do nothing. I stay calm. I experience the thing, it is there, it stays there as long as it needs to stay, in the long run it will disappear as there are no things that last for ever...(anitya).
- Very often I understand why the thought or emotion is there. It takes care of me, it helps me to survive both practical but also in my social context. Also there are thoughts that are overdoing it. Yes, it helps in some way but it is going to far and really unnecessary. So I negotiate with the thought. I let it know that I understand it is there and why it is there. Sometimes, when I rest or when I meditate, I ask it to go, to no bother me no more. I ask in a friendly manner, it is a request. And that works! Most of the time I return to silence and I fall asleep or I deepen my meditation.

Everything I think and feel about this, is not separate from me, it IS me. I do not realize that these are just thoughts and they are not who I am.... I am attached, not detached.
